When judging a player who works in the Acoustic Blues genre one has to keep in mind the origins of these stylings vocally and instrumentally.  The astute listener recalls the likes of Muddy Waters, Hot Tuna, Elmore James, Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy and Taj Mahal along with many others.  Mike Davis moves through all these artists with a deft personal touch and honesty.

Blues purists are looking for authenticity and the casual listener is looking for foot stomping entertainment.  Mike Davis is an authentic practitioner steeped in the best of Blue Eyed Soul tradition, and thumps through the songs of these masters with a quiet attention to the detail that classic song forms like these demand, such as a breathing tempo, intensity and the right amount of grit in the vocal.

It takes a lot to sit on a stage and fill that space of sound which demands fulfillment.  This is what accompanies the acoustic performance...and Mike always shows how well he does it with each new gig notched into his blossoming career.  One thing all the purists know for sure when they attend his shows; he's got the rhythm down pat, his right hand is steeped in the Delta Tradition and his vocal ability is arresting.  Mike Davis' blues performance is magnetic.
